Living in the Moment

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble -Matthew 6:34

We live in the age of “moving on to the next thing”. Everything is about what’s happening next. Who is the next rising star? What is the next fashion trend? When you go to the store in the winter to try to shop for a sweater, you find yourself surrounded with next summer’s bathing suits (An absolute annoyance as my body is still in winter mode).

So it is little wonder that I find myself living in the fast forward lane to life. On to the next day and mentally listing all the things I have to do or what’s on the agenda because what I do today effectively has an impact on tomorrow. But hardly do I stay on the path of today. By days end, I find that I hadn’t really been present. I hadn’t lived in the present. How many of us do that?

Don’t feel bad, God said in Matthew 6:34 for us not to worry about what tomorrow will bring. Now He wasn’t talking about not preparing for tomorrow. That’s different.  Careful planning is a necessity of life because it alleviates unnecessary worry. We are to prepare what needs to be done for the next day, and then leave it there.

Oftentimes, I prepare for the next day, and I’m still in the next day not paying any attention to what’s going on in front of me.  In time, before you know it, the kids will have grown, precious moments will have been missed, and loved ones will have transition from this life to the next, and what do we famously say? ‘Where has all the time gone?’ Or ‘Time is moving so fast.’ Yea it goes by quick. And if you are not diligent enough to be present in the present, you will miss it.

God by His grace gave us right now, this moment. Today. Live in it! I’ve gotten in the habit of asking God to keep my mind to focus on the now, and He is faithful. Besides, God is so Awesome. He already knows what we need before we even ask him. (Matt 6:8) and He leaves no stone unturned (Phil 1:6).  He even fulfills needs that may have slipped my mind.  He’s that good. It’s also an awesome thing to be present in His presence.

Don’t let worries creep into your quiet moments with Him. He’s already in tomorrow and He has taken care all of the details (Matt 6:31).  Don’t let today pass you by.

Enjoy your coffee, and live in the moment

Feverishly Exciting

For God is not the author of confusion but of peace, as in all the churches of the saints. ~ 1 Corinthians 14:33

Here I go talking about time management again.

First, Happy Friday! It is our unofficial start to the weekend. I woke up this morning with the thought, ‘where did the week go?’ I still have a lot of work to get done today, lot’s of chores for the weekend and I am preparing my home for some major changes that are  happening next week. Plus blogging, writing, ministry work…

I love my purposeful life but at times, I feel overwhelmed and unorganized. I know that if I don’t get balance, sooner or later everything on my plate will fall.

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.  Psalm 90:12

I have said that my schedule is ‘hectic’. Is there anyone else out there living with a hectic schedule?  The root meaning of hectic is ‘feverishly exciting, full of disorganized activity’ (etymonline.com). This sounds like most of my days, running, busy, purposeful but unorganized.  Yesterday, I was on the phone from the time I left work until the time I went to bed. I can’t say that I had a full hour that I was not on the phone! Everything was purposeful but I did not have a timed plan for the work I was doing.

So today, I am purposefully slowing down. As I am running, I am not applying wisdom to my heart. I am determined to master this time management and order in my life. Perhaps by next year 2018, I may be in the place of teaching the art of time. And who knows, there may be a book birthed as well.

In the meantime, I am carefully planning the hours of my weekend so that next week, order and peace will prevail.

Walk in peace! Enjoy your coffee and power up your day!

Where did the Time go?

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12

The last Friday of 2016. Where did the time go?

I’ve been asking myself this questions since just before Christmas.  Where did the time go? The end of the year seemed to appear out of nowhere. One more day and we are moving on to a New Year.

Time is our precious commodity. The scripture is a reminder for us to apply our days with wisdom. And where time-management may be an issue, pray for wisdom in this area.

I don’t want to get through half of 2017 and say ‘where did the time go!’ To quote my pastor, Bishop Michael B. Curtis Jr, “when we don’t plan our time, we give room to the enemy to distract us from our resource of time.”

This morning, I am not just thinking of how to be a better time manager, but I am praying for his instruction and for wisdom throughout 2017.

Enjoy your cup of coffee and power up your day!
