Change the Course

Now this I say, he who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. ~ 2 Corinthians 9:6

We are 30 days into 2017. Can we calculate the cost of wasted time?

There is an accountability group that I am a part of.  We have a goal to push ourselves to write 3000 words a day.  Last week,  one member posted that they stayed faithful and the first draft was at nearly 75,000 words.  They wrote faithfully since January 1st.

I’ve only posted my numbers twice.

I used to hear this all the time,  if you make one step,  God will make two. Well,  I can’t say that I’ve seen it written in the Bible that way.  What I have seen is that God will hold us accountable and that we are rewarded appropriately for our actions and our lack of action.

Changing the Course

As we start our Monday,  let’s decide on the course of our week. Bishop Michael Curtis challenged us yesterday to write out a structured plan for our week.

This week,  we will focus on the follow through. And I will even post my word count.

Don’t wake up worrying. Write your plan and work it.

Enjoy your coffee and power up your day!

Post Your Wins

I recall the old days; I meditate on all you have done; I reflect on your accomplishments. ~ Psalm 143:5

The administrator of a Facebook group asked us to ‘post our wins, no matter how small’. To start the conversation, she posted a comment on one thing that she accomplished that week. Someone followed with a accomplishment, then another. I took notice of ‘no matter how small’. Well, I did my daily blogs, I went to work every day…hmmm I had a couple of successful coaching sessions. Oh, and the magazine this published week!

The Purpose of the Post

This was not a bragging post. It was designed for the group members to focus on the positive so that we would continue to move forward.

In our last leadership meeting, our pastor Bishop Michael Curtis Jr., presented us with the Power of Positive Thinking (Barbara Frederickson, UNC). To quote the study,

“feelings of positive emotions helps you to identify more possibilities and options in your life”
“extra possibilities and options seem to translate into action”

Get Unstuck

When we don’t see large wins, it becomes easy to dismiss our smaller accomplishments. But acknowledging what God has allowed you to complete this week may be what is needed to push you towards your purpose.

Don’t wake up worrying about what you did not see accomplished. Think positive, celebrate your wins and continue to move on Purpose!

Intentional love

Beloved, let us love one another, for love is from God; and everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. ~ 1 John 4:7

I remember being about 7 years old I bugged my cousin. I called her Martin Luther King because her birthday was the same day, (the 15th).  Thankfully, she forgave me from my childish prank. Today, she is not only my cousin, but she is one of my dearest and best friends.

Celebrating Change

Today, as a nation, we celebrate the birthday of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This man used what he had inside of him and changed the course of this nation. He walked in love.

Without his walk, many laws may not have changed. Many opportunities may not have been. Honestly, it is difficult for me to imagine my life any different than what I am used to. Because Dr. King walked in his purpose, I never had to walk in his shoes.

Intentional love makes a difference in this world.

Dr. King, he changed a nation with intentional love. And Jesus Christ, He provided us life with intentional love through sacrifice. I have the same responsibility to walk in love.

Let us be intentional with our love and actions today. Enjoy your coffee and power up your day.

Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith. ~ Galatians 6:10

This past weekend, much of the east coast was turned into a winter wonderland. Even in the south, snow and ice caused many places to close. For safety’s sake, there were many churches who made the decision not to open.

What an opportunity!

Churches who’s doors were opened, streamed their services live. Others made use of conference calls to keep the congregations together. I witnessed first hand, because of the outreach, were the many visitors who joined in the live streams and calls. My church alone had a large amount of visitors who called in from several different states.

In every situation, remember the opportunities that come with fulfilling your purpose. Sometimes, things are shaken up just to show us how much more we have inside of us.

Be safe and stay warm this morning. Enjoy your coffee and power up your day.

And We are Glad…

Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, But a good word makes it glad. ~ Proverbs 12:25

How much did you hear today? These days, we ‘hear’ from many sources. There is Social Media, radio, live streams, news feeds, emails, text messages, and private inboxes. We can hear at least 100 voices and opinions before leaving our homes in the morning.

Listening to so many opinions can be overwhelming. Stress and anxiety can have a negative effect on our bodies and our hearts.

A good word can counteract these effects. Take a midday walk, step away from the desk, look away from social media. Recharge your day with a scripture, a devotional or a positive word. Then be sure to make someone else’s heart glad by sharing a good word.

Recharge your day and enjoy tea time!

Start Better Mornings

Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace always in every way. The Lord be with you all. ~ 2 Thessalonians 3:16

Most of us see the morning as the beginning of the day. But if you are on the traditional schedule, by the time we wake up, we are nearly halfway through the day. The start of a new day is at midnight. And the bible tells us in Genesis that the evening came prior to the morning, and the two made the first day.

Preparing for our best days does not necessarily begin in the morning. Our best days can start in the evening.  There are things we can do in the evening to ensure that our morning is not a time of confusion or worry.

Prepare clothes for work/ school – Prepare your power outfits in the evenings. You will know ahead of time if something is missing or not quite the right fit.

Meal prep your breakfast/lunch and snacks – 20 minutes in the evening goes a lot smoother than 20 minutes in the morning

Put things away, (dishes, clothes, toys) – no need to wake up to last night’s clutter

Get to bed earlier – Set a time to shut everything down, including television, smart phones, social media and the lights. Our bodies and brains deserve those hours of uninterrupted rest

Pray and Trust God – Trust that even in our sleep, He is working on our behalf. We take our hands off everything and know that God will take care of us

What can you do this evening to make tomorrow morning an even better morning? Things to ponder as you  enjoy your coffee and power up your day!

Renewed Mind. New Year

Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will ~ Romans 12:2

When we decide to lose weight, one of the things we must do is change the way we think. There are times where we think we can’t eat healthy food (because we want something fried, sweet or unhealthy) or we don’t have time to exercise.

Changing the way we think about the food we eat and exercise isn’t an easy task but with God we can do all things.  If you begin to crave a candy bar, chips, ice cream or anything unhealthy ask God for help to get through the craving.   Cravings can last up to 30 minutes or longer.

Remember, all things are possible with God. Power up your day!
