TGIF! It is Good

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High: ~ Psalm 92:1

I think there is a different type of excitement that occurs on Fridays. Unlike any other day of the week, Friday afternoons hold a different anticipation and a different level of thanks.

There is the thankfulness for being kept another week. We made it through work, school and the various chores of the week. Nothing was strong enough to take us down. We can look back and see how God brought us through every single day.

I found a few articles that speak on the benefits of gratitude. All three are a great read. But I have to add to the benefits below.  For me, there is a great benefit for giving thanks to God. It is being in His presence offering thanks,  praise and adoration. This week, He has continued to be a keeper.

Friday the What?

Have nothing to do with godless myths and old wives’ tales; rather, train yourself to be godly. ~ 1 Timothy 4:7

I had to catch myself this morning.

One of my coworkers is mildly superstitious. You would laugh if you ever saw 3 of us walking through the building to the cafeteria. Two of us will purposely ‘split a pole’ to irritate the coworker.

Always the prankster, I came in to work, thinking of a Friday the 13th prank. Why did I immediately feel convicted? Was I really purposely plotting vex someone?  Was I really saying that today is not a good day?

I realized that today, is just as awesome as any other Friday. There is no ‘bad luck’ associated with the day that the Lord made. Why would I purposely play into someone else’s genuine fear when I could spend that same energy speaking of how magnificent today is?

I’ll  be behaving today, being purposeful in my words and actions. And maybe if I’m feeling generous later, I may share some coffee from the coffee stash I have in my desk!

Be Purposeful! Enjoy your coffee and power up your day!

Where did the Time go?

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psalm 90:12

The last Friday of 2016. Where did the time go?

I’ve been asking myself this questions since just before Christmas.  Where did the time go? The end of the year seemed to appear out of nowhere. One more day and we are moving on to a New Year.

Time is our precious commodity. The scripture is a reminder for us to apply our days with wisdom. And where time-management may be an issue, pray for wisdom in this area.

I don’t want to get through half of 2017 and say ‘where did the time go!’ To quote my pastor, Bishop Michael B. Curtis Jr, “when we don’t plan our time, we give room to the enemy to distract us from our resource of time.”

This morning, I am not just thinking of how to be a better time manager, but I am praying for his instruction and for wisdom throughout 2017.

Enjoy your cup of coffee and power up your day!

The Birth of Promise

And she brought forth her firstborn Son, and wrapped Him in swaddling cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. ~ Luke 2:7

Here Mary, the young virgin, has carried the child of promise. But now that he is born, she has to resort to laying him in a manger.

Both Mary and Joseph received angelic visitation, promising that this child was the redeemer, the savior. He would be the one that the entire nation had hoped and prayed for. Surely, God would have made provision for the promise to be birthed, someone would have a large room, clean and ready for the birth of a king!sunrise-1886334_1920

In spite of the humble birth, Mary cared for her promise! She used everything that she had to care for her newborn.

When a promise is birthed, it does not always look the way we expect it to look. When we have nurtured and cared for the gifts that God places inside of us, we naturally have great expectation: best selling books, filled auditoriums, people flocking to our businesses.

Encourage yourself this morning by reflecting on what God has promised you. What looks like a humble birth of your promise, may very well be the beginning of great ministry.

Enjoy your cup of coffee and power up your day being confident in promise.

A Morning Meditation

Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart, Be acceptable in Your sight,
O Lord, my strength and my Redeemer. ~ Psalm 19:14

Have you ever realized that there is a connection between your heart and your words? Yes, even Jesus reminds us of this , out of the abundance of a man’s heart is what his mouth speaks (Luke 6:45). In other words, our mouth tells the story of what is really in our hearts.

Are your words full of worry? Are you speaking only of concern or doubt? Did you go to sleep last night, meditating on every thing that is wrong?

Or, are your words full of hope and joy? Are you proclaiming victory in every situation you are facing? Did you allow you mind to rest last night because you trusted in God for everything?

Throughout His word, we are reminded, Trust God, Cast your cares on Him, Believe in His word, He will save us. Let us be mindful to meditate on His word and not be consumed with our surroundings.  He is our strength and our redeemer, always.

Meditate on His word. Enjoy your cup of coffee and power up your day by speaking of His goodness.
