Seven Days of Happiness – Day 4

We have different gifts based on the grace that was given to us. So if your gift is prophecy, use your gift in proportion to your faith. ~ Romans 12:5

Yesterday, a co-worker asked me to share my experiences with blogging. In the conversation, she let me know how much she enjoys writing and is now ready to go forward. We were excited, talking about something that we both loved to do. And I was happy to pass on any information that I had to give.

One of the questions she asked was how much time a week do I spend blogging. I had to think about that one. If I am not literally typing, then I am either thinking, observing or studying the industry. What takes 2 minutes to read might have taken 2 hours to type! But it is all for the ministry and the love of writing. Writing is now passionate to me and keeps my mind and heart happy all day.

Today, we are thankful for a passion and desire to live. It is a gift that the enemy often tries to steal from us. Using strongholds of doubt, he works to discourage us from being passionate about life and purpose. The joy of the Lord gives us strength to overcome those strongholds so that we remain on course to live the fulfilling lives God has for us.

Take some time today to pursue your passion. Go after the things that make you smile. Take charge and make your day happy. Enjoy your coffee and Power up your day.

Seven Days of Happiness – Day 3

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever. Amen. ~ 2 Pet 3:18

Growing up in church, I remember there being a time set aside specifically for testimonies. People would stand, give glory to God, then tell how He kept them and brought them through a tough situation with victory. As a child, I sat back and listened. As a teenager, I would struggle with this, I did not want to get up. I did not have a spectacular story or testimony. As an adult, give me a few moments, and I will give my testimony with joy.

Ten years ago, if someone would have told me I would be alive today, in Richmond VA, in ministry, writing and blogging…I would have laughed them out of the door. Five years ago, if someone would have told me that Jesus would be my everything and I would be happy…I would have slammed the door in their face. I am here today because of His grace and mercy. I don’t even have to talk about the enemy, I myself have self-sabotaged and walked a path of destruction on purpose.

Today we celebrate happiness because God has blessed us to grow in grace. We know more today than we knew a year ago. With growth, God continues to open new opportunities for us. His supply for us is bountiful.

My testimony today would wrap up like this: “I am happy today, because I am growing in grace. The more I get to know of Him, the more I want to know. I am daily surprised with blessings. I am always reminded of His love for me. He comforts me as he pushes me to go forward.”

Do you have a testimony of how you have grown in grace? Share your happiness today by telling someone how God has raised you up. It will bless others and you as well. Enjoy your coffee and Power up your day.

Seven Days of Happiness – Day 2

I sought the LORD, and he heard me, and delivered me from all my fears. ~ Psalm 34:4

Freed from Fear

In spite of what my family thinks, I am not fear-free. They think that my willingness to try new ideas, ride the tallest coasters or pick up and travel at a moment’s notice makes me fear-free. It really just makes me daring.

Real fears go much deeper. As many of us do, I tend to fear the consequences if my life loses stability. What if I lose employment, will bills be paid? What if there is bad weather or a fire should come, will my home be lost? There are countless things in life that the mere thought of them can keep us bound in fear. Being bound in strongholds of fear is not the life that God has for us.

David was at a place of fear. His fear was so great that he changed his behavior and those who sought his life thought that he had lost his mind. It could have been his fate to be locked away or even still be put to death. God did not only spare his life, but He made it so that David did not have to continue hiding in fear. God delivered David, kept him in his right mind, and he never again had to go back to that place of fear.

When God frees you from fear, you can move forward into purpose, pursue goals, and step into successful endeavors. Being freed from fear means that even if things go off track, God has already prepared a way of deliverance for you.

Today we are happy because by seeking God, He will hear us and deliver us from all of these fears!

Walk forward in happiness because God frees us from the stronghold of fear! Enjoy your coffee this morning and power up your day.

Seven Days of Happiness – Day 1

I think myself happy, king Agrippa, because I shall answer for myself this day before thee touching all the things whereof I am accused of the Jews ~ Acts 26:2

Happiness is an intentional state of mind. It does not require money, health or stature. When we intend to be happy, we find that it is completely independent of any person or anything that surrounds us.  Happiness is yours if you intentionally choose to have it.

In this passage, Paul coined the words ‘I think myself happy’. He was not a free man. He was as infamous as he was popular. His imprisonment was not like the legal system that we are used to, he wasn’t presumed innocent. Money could not change the situation he was in. Still, he thought himself happy.

When we find ourselves in sticky situations, the enemy will try to make us think that if the outside changes that it will bring us happiness. When bills are overwhelming, we desire a boatload of money to make us happy. When we are feeling lonely, we want to connect with a person to make us happy. While they may provide a temporary lift-me-up, happiness must be brought from the inside out and not the outside in.

Today, I encourage you to think yourself happy. Push your thoughts toward happiness, intentionally.

Swimming Underwater

When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee. ~ Isaiah 43:2

When people find out that I know how to swim, they are usually surprised. I explain that Brooklyn Tech, my high school Alma mater, made swimming a requirement. Every student had to take one semester of swim class. In order to pass the class, we had swim the complete length of the pool. Let me say this, failing this class was NOT an option. If you graduated from Brooklyn Tech, you knew how to swim.

Although I made it across and passed the class, I never could master swimming underwater. The few times that I tried, I floated up to the top. Now, when I dare to go to a pool or beach, there’s no almost no chance of me going under because I don’t want to get all of this hair soaking wet!

Yesterday, I was going over my to do list. I realized that as much as I had already completed, I still had much more to do. I told God that I was “in way over my head”. His reply was simple and profound. “Learn how to swim underwater.”

Water is a strong force. The resistance of water builds your muscle in amazing ways. Water exercises are used for therapy, for weight loss and even strength building. When we are deep in the water, we are actually in position to learn, to grow, and to excel.

If you are feeling overwhelmed by the necessary weekly tasks on your plate, I am going to encourage you as God encouraged me. Learn to swim underwater. Before long we will be fantastic ‘swimmers’, going further and faster than we ever thought possible.

Removing The Risk

He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Psalm 23:3

I’ve never had any major engine troubles with my car but every couple of months, either a light will go out or a tire has to be replaced. It’s not unusual for me to have to drive on a donut or have to use my high beams at night. Ever so often, something in the car needs to be restored back to optimal condition.

David recognized that ever so often, our soul needs to be restored back to optimal condition. Like the car, we don’t necessarily have major woes, but we find ourselves having to compensate for something that is missing or broken. Sometimes it could be peace, or it could be our self esteem, and sometimes, we simply need a few days off to be restored.

I get fussed at when I ride the donut. What if another tire goes flat or what if the donut gets damaged. And I have a light right now that needs to be replaced. The scary truth is, even though I ‘successfully’ compensate for what is wrong, when I don’t operate the car at full capacity, I am putting other drivers at risk if my backup plans fail.

When the soul need restoration, it’s important to deal with issues immediately. If our soul isn’t operating on full capacity, we pull from our peace and our good-nature to compensate for what is missing. As believers, if our nature isn’t right, then we take the risk of endangering another person’s peace.

I’m thankful for a God who revives our peace and restores our souls. Today, it is okay to allow God to tune us up, and perfect what is within us.

No coffee for me today. Not feeling 100%, I’m resting and supposed to have plenty of fluids, unfortunately, they didn’t mean coffee. So, please enjoy a cup for me and Power up your day!

Keeping Glad Thoughts

My meditation of him shall be sweet: I will be glad in the LORD ~ Psalm 104:34

“What a mighty God we serve, What a mighty God we serve”. My song of choice this morning is Lord You’re Mighty, by J.J Hairston & Youthful Praise (awesome song). I hummed it on the elevator and have since been playing it on my headphones. The song is appropriate for my mood of the day. I simply love and trust the mighty God.

I started off this morning worrying. I was worried about my niece going on a field trip to DC today. I was worried about getting to work on time because I had to take her to school early.  I was still thinking about last night’s Home Going Service for Nikki, which hundreds of us attended in person and by live-stream. There was so much on my brain this morning, that I even left my coffee on the kitchen counter.

On my ride to work, God reminded me that He is mighty. Nikki’s family and friends would be okay, He comforts those who mourn. Nikki’s absence from her body means that she is in the presence of the Lord. My niece would be fine on her field trip. I arrived to work on time. And as far as the coffee, my desk drawer is full of Keurig cups. Nothing is missing and nothing is broken.

Knowing that He is mighty, we can dismiss worry and simply meditate on him. Worry is a stronghold of the mind that distracts our thinking. If there is any worry on your mind this morning, I encourage you to replace the thought by reminding yourself of how mighty God is. Be forewarned, meditating on God can lead to worship!

Be Glad in the Lord today. Enjoy your coffee and Power up your Day
